For the new followers, here's an ongoing list of threads I've put together on various topics ranging from private prisons to for-profit healthcare and more. I hope you find the info useful. xo. - A thread on America's current state as told through graphs:

I wrote the above thread a year ago. And while I'm far from being the only person who warned about the Republican march toward fascism, it's now clear that the media failed to convey the real danger of the GOP's coddling of its white supremacist supporters before it was too late.

217 years ago today, on January 1, 1804, Haiti became became the first independent Black republic in the world following a 12 year revolution. It changed the trajectory of world history. In 1893, Frederick Douglass gave a speech outlining why Haiti's revolution was so important:

it can't be stressed enough how inadequate liberal media "fact-checking"-style efforts are to address a brainwashing so deep that it has people denying their own deaths to their last breath
Quote Tweet
A South Dakota ER nurse @JodiDoering says her Covid-19 patients often “don’t want to believe that Covid is real.” “Their last dying words are, ‘This can’t be happening. It’s not real.’ And when they should be... Facetiming their families, they’re filled with anger and hatred.”

Lunch counter sit-ins weren’t even popular w/n the civil rights mvmt at beginning. It was led by students who were criticized as too confrontational on issue of desegregation. Older organizers wanted to focus on court cases & Kennedy admin wanted to focus on voter registration
Quote Tweet
Y’all do know the lunch counter sit ins “weren’t supported by a majority of Americans” right? Like a majority of Americans (which breaks down differently when you disaggregate for race) are complacent and fine with injustice isn’t a reason to not fight for justice.

There's been lots of finger pointing towards the "Green New Deal" and "Defund the Police" as reasons why Democrats underperformed this cycle. Those issues are not costing us races. Letting the GOP define those issues for us is. There's a difference.

Voted to apologize. After 35 years.
Quote Tweet
Philadelphia's city council voted to apologize for the 1985 bombing of a Black neighborhood. Police dropped combat explosives on members of Black liberation group MOVE, who were living in a row house. 11 people died — including 5 children — and fires left 250 people homeless.

MINDBLOWING: The same police force that murdered Breonna Taylor hid **750,000** records of sexual abuse of minors **by their officers** and then lied to keep those files secret. Louisville's Metro Council voted to increase their funding this year. Don't even know what to say.

Absolute bombshell of a report from The Courier Journal: LMPD hid almost 750,000 records documenting the sexual abuse of minors by Louisville police officers, and then lied to keep the files from the public courier-journal.com/story/news/cri

This is the opposite of healing. The people who were harmed need healing. The abusive people who did the harming don't. Don't reach out to a Trump supporter. Reach out to somebody that Trump harmed instead. This should be obvious.
Quote Tweet
Now is the time for every Biden supporter to reach out to one person who voted for Trump. Empathize with them. Tell them you know how they feel (you do, from 2016). Come up with one issue you can agree on.

And every narrative saying that Biden needs to compromise with Republicans any more than they’ve compromised with Dems the past 12 years needs to be shut down immediately
Quote Tweet
Joe Biden has: —Won the Electoral College —Won the popular vote —Received more votes than any other presidential candidate —Likely flipped 5 states —Won with higher margins than Trump in the Rust Belt in 2016 Whatever the Republicans say, this was a decisive victory.

I don’t have a ton of rules, but one is that people shouldn’t take advice from a guy who used his government authority to cover up the murder of a teenager. That’s just me tho

On ABC, Rahm Emanuel literally says a Biden White House should tell people laid off from retail stores like JC Penney to learn to code. He actually said this. Amazing.

I've seen a lot of takes suggesting Trump and the GOP have no vision for a 2nd term, but their plan seems quite clear: pushing back against changing demographics and keeping America white at all costs. That's one of the MANY reasons why it's so important that they lose tonight.

If not a single member of ISIS killed a single white individual anywhere in the United States for this entire year, that would not reduce the number of white homicide victims by one percent. See how that works?

Republicans have EXPLICITLY stated their goal of permanent minority rule. Everything they do is based on their view of America's changing demographics as a liability rather than an opportunity. At this point, anyone pretending not to see this is complicit.

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when: Republicans exclude POC from the democratic process through gerrymandering and voter suppression while ensuring that federal judicial appointments are the least diverse since Reagan?

Looking at our history of oppression of Black people from slavery to Jim Crow and lynchings to mass incarceration and police killings, the question of which President has done the most for Black people seems irrelevant? No one, President or otherwise, has done enough.
Quote Tweet
Lyndon B Johnson would like a word about being the president who did the most for black people

ALSO UNFAZED: The media's refusal to acknowledge the GOP's constant disenfranchisement of Black voters as an intentional attack on democracy rather than a heartwarming story.

While we should all be working towards defeating Trump on Nov 3rd, none of it will matter if we don't work even harder to defeat the system that empowers men like him in the first place. Trump is a symptom of a sick system, not the cause. Treating him as an anomaly is dangerous.
