One of the elements of this film I’m proudest of is that I think it helped Kirk and Michael find a new, even deeper common ground in their relationship.

55 years of “In the Heat of the Night” and it’s still such an incredibly powerful film. Thanks to for bringing it back to the silver screen this week in celebration. One of the film’s I’m still most proud of. Rod, Sidney, Norman, Hal are masterful.

@TheLeeGrant is it true you were in contention in 1970 to play Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots, which Glenda Jackson played reprising her role from television?

We’d discussed Cloris Leachman’s role, but Cloris was beyond incredible and so so right for it. She’s so brave in that film.

Hal Ashby had a strong knack for small performances that don’t dominate the film. Lee Grant in Shampoo for one, a very funny role dialed into the tone. Also think separate from the Oscar, Melvyn Douglas is very good in Being There. But winning over Duvall, heavy anchor to carry
