If fuel duty is so exorbitant, why are the roads so congested? And we need high prices to try and reduce import dependence, which is an economic and strategic liability.

It doesn’t cost the treasury anything as it wasn’t their’s in the first place. Fuel is already expensive enough.

Yes, you are correct. We're allowing the owners of fossil-fuel burning vehicles keep £9bn per year, while the rest of society loses £9bn of benefits. Good for the few, not the many!
