Awhile ago was having a discussion with a male peer about the low-income class struggle. Without missing a beat he turns to me and goes: "It's so easy for you [as a woman], you can just become a sugar baby." He repeatedly expresses the belief that "sex work" is easy not a trauma.

The representation of "sex work"-prostitution, stripping, sugaring-as easy, fast money without any real risks or consequences, safety hazards, health hazards, psychological harms, traumas, PTSD, or even just having to depersonalize & disassociate to 'play pretend' a fake persona

And the amount spent to look a certain way to conform to male beauty expectations and the psychological toll of existing to fulfill the fantasies of others, is pretty awful. On top of the constant racial fetishization if you're a "woman of color"/"visible minority" etc.

The "sex work is easy/fun/glamorous/easy money" propaganda (promoted by the sex trade lobby, media, and 'happy hookers'/shills) socializes females into the industry and socializes males into being relieved of any feelings of guilt or shame about supporting the industry.

It also relieves males of any sympathy or compassion since they assume the women aren't going through anything risky, deadly, traumatizing, or hazardous, sometimes with extremely low pay despite the glamorous or luxurious stereotypical representation of the $1000+ high-end escort

Or high-end stripper or sugar baby. It's easy for men and women to assume all the women in the sex trade are well paid, 'happy hookers', making fast easy money and having a good time, when mainstream representation of "sex work" constantly plays off these tropes. It's awful.
