I'll give the book this: I look at the disaster lives of all the main adult characters of this book and feel a bit better about my own life and ability to be a functioning adult.

I guess you could call it a better Ready Player One in that respect as it doesn't valorize, but show the deep myopathy of that attitude.

I didn't even know what year this book took place in until around 80 pages to the end. It's a wash with dream remembrances of the 70s and 80s lost in the nostalgia, while focused clearly on current concerns of the present.

It's the mixture of stream of consciousness writing, characters who are half out of their mind and talk with a cadence that's difficult to follow, and the constant of me wondering where the hell we are now as scenes, pov and context shift constantly. I'm given no anchor point.

Read Telegraph Avenue; I'm gald I read it, but I'm also glad I never have to look at it again. That was such a chore of a book to get through. The first hundred pages are a slog for reasons I cannot adequately discern.

Works was such a mess this morning that they held a few of us back for an extra hour fourty-five to clean up the disaster on one of the lines. I'm exhausted, but positive side, I hit 31 hours this week.

How successful was today's D&D session? "I think I may have just doomed this village." "Wait! Did I almost kill a child?" "Mister, is your name Bozo?" "Do you know what happens to naughty children?" "Yes, the windmill takes its revenge." "The- WHAT!?!"

Instead, I stressed and panicked for 6 hours that my car wouldn't kill the battery and lock me out. I got the car and everything was fine. This has been a personal shaggy dog story that resulted in me gaining a few more grey hairs.

My car fixed itself for no reason last night. I drove all the way to work and when I turned the headlights off, all the lights went off, even the driving lights that were on before even when I removed the key. So I took the risk and didn't disconnect the battery.

Which is what I'm going to do because I have no other option. I need to get to work, can't leave it to be fixed. Uber's don't work in my area that early in the morning. I'm screwed.

Now the driving lights are permanently on for no reason, even without the key in the ignition. Nearby garage is closing soon, so I take it in for a quick check and the only advice he can offer is disconnect the battery when parked.

Well, this has been a day. I'm on the way back from some errands and my car's horn starts blaring non-stop. I have to pull over and lift the hood up just to stop getting dirty looks. Eventually after a few minutes it completely burns itself out.

Watched I Married a Witch; a movie I watched purely because of its title. It's so stupid it kind of wraps about into charming. But a good example of what was being churned out in studio system Hollywood. Not everything could be a classic.

It's a quick, easy read that did manage to get me to cackle out loud a few times. Not life changing but thoroughly recommended.

It's also the first in what seems to be a whole literary interconnected universe of upper class twits getting light heartedly duped.

I was actually taken aback at first, because I thought I had read this one before, but no. Looked it up later and this is the first book of a series taking place at the fictional manor estate.
