So this has kind of been my battle. Of course, this is happening right as life starts to get busy so instead of being able to seriously contemplate or work through the issue, I've been sucked into the black hole of school work. It's just been nagging at the back of my mind

As a former University Art Instructor (Graphic Design), lemme add my 2 cents: 1) Art is subjective (you know this) 2) You will ALWAYS feel gut-punched by any criticism 3) You are your own worst critic.

This means: You will always question what you do, and think it's crap, and hate showing it to others, and feel like it's never good enough. The GOAL should be to shake yourself out of this state and a) Do the best you can b) Remember that time and practice = improvement

Eventually, you decide what's good enough; NO ONE is perfect. Twitter is a LOUSY venue, but the likes feel good... just remember that a lot of them are akin to your parent saying "I love your art" -- Thanks, Dad/Mom, but you're biased.

If Art is your passion, just do it. If Art is your profession, just do it for a paycheck. I've had the privilege of working with award-winning artists who still felt they needed improvement - they just kept that feeling in perspective.

That is an incredibly good way to explain all of this, thank you so much Scott! And the perspective is immensely helpful, it's always better when you know you have company 💜

I spent 20 years as a Creative Director and still felt like poop when a client (or a boss) didn't LOVE what I did. Sometimes, ya just gotta swallow that feeling and use the damn Helvetica font (cuz your boss is an idiot)
