Do I need a bread and butter? Do I need a niche? Do I need a specialty in order to be successful? And I'm not talking successful on a monetary level, but successful on a 'I've achieved my goals and become a part of the community' level

if you enjoy doing all three things, by all means do them. Your identity doesn't need to be tied to one specific niche by any means. Lots of successful people have varied interests and dabble in many fields.
My worry is though, I can only think of a few folks (at least, in the WoW specific community) who dabble in multiple, varied interests at a public, interacting level. The vast, vast majority, almost to the point of exclusivity, deal in a few niches which tie together smoothly
