Someone else would be a better guide for this, but usually if you hammer on F1 or F2 or F5 or F10 or something, instead of attempting to load the OS it will go to the BIOS menu. From there, you can tell it to boot from a USB or DVD drive, if you have a recovery disc.

It sounds like you're using a laptop. Is that correct? If so, are you able to access the HDD reasonably easily? If so, you could remove it and hook it up to another comp (your dad's?) to try diagnosing it.

You may also be able to create a windows restoration disc on another computer to try booting from. Best to use a large capacity USB drive for that.

Unfortunately, the only other windows operating device in my house is another laptop but I'll definitely keep that in mind in case everything else falls through
