It seems Mr. Mark Saltzman was asked if Bert & Ernie are gay. It's fine that he feels they are. They're not, of course. But why that question? Does it really matter? Why the need to define people as only gay? There's much more to a human being than just straightness or gayness.

You’re telling the CREATOR of Bert & Earnie his “take is of”? Is it possible to sound MORE smug and self-important?

I always thought they were retired versions of the cops from Its A Wonderful Life.

I saw “The Odd Couple” ala Tony Randall & Jack Klugman. Didn’t know about Bert & Ernie from “It’s A Wonderful Life” until I was in early adulthood, in the late 1980’s.

Because if you don't define representation in children's media, children are implicitly taught the normative social model excludes LGBT people. Sesame Street has long used human and muppet characters to visibly show children they and other humans aren't aberrations.

Sesame Street has explicitly taught against racism, explained grief to children, there's been muppet characters with HIV or autism. Fostering the next generation includes gender and sexuality diversity, which doesnt mean anything naughty. It means kids with gay parents see it.
