My dad can’t understand British accents. He once had lunch with a British friend named Bob. Took me along as translator. Bob spoke, my dad looked at me, and I’d repeat what Bob said in an American accent. At first Bob thought we were playing a joke. 1/

To this day, my father groans when British customers or friends ask to speak with him. He genuinely likes British people, but he knows he’s gonna have to find someone to interpret for him. I should put “British-to-American translator” on my resume.
