Make a list of 3-5 principles you want to embody. That you’d be embarrassed if people said you don’t have. Courage Compassion Honesty Integrity When a decision arises, don’t ask what will make people not hate you. Ask which principle applies. And how to show that principle.

You can even ask for a few seconds to think about it. No person of quality is going to be angry if you explain “I am trying to figure out the most honest response, please give me a few seconds to think.” And if they’re angry at your choice, they’re really angry at your principle

This is a great litmus test for quality people vs toxic. Quality people may not like your answer based on principles but they’ll respect it. They’ll trust you more, even if your principles was against their interests this time. Toxic people will screech and demand you surrender.

People who won't hesitate to insult and abandon you for living by firm principles are broken cowards, who assure transient vanities and selfish convenience as their values. People who motivate you for having principles are worthy of consideration. This should be affirmed too.
