I usually pray for them to find Christ and repent, so they can find joy in Him rather than in whatever they've been doing. I'm not 100% sure that's how I *ought* to be doing it, but everything else I've tried makes me feel like the Pharisee in the parable at Luke 18:9

I suspect if there was only one right way to do it, we’d possess the exact wording as we do the Our Father. The act of praying for them at all is tremendously counter to our selfishness.
