Speaking from a secular POV., I really don't think kids believing in Santa's is a bad thing. It's a sign of their innocence and I feel it's wrong to take that away from them. They'll grow up and stop believing before you know it, so let them have that small bit of joy.

I know that my statement wasn't really on point with what you said, but I felt like it should be said, so I did.

I used to think a lot about it, because on one hand yeah it _sounds like_ lying. But on the other, I can't remember being upset about it at all when I found out. I took it more as what it is: a kind tradition. Though my parents did not make a Huge deal out of Santa...

I am respectfully curious: Are both of you from Christian families but now atheists?

I didn't quite grow up in a "Christian family". My parents never really were religious. My read the Bible a few times. I became seriously interested in religion during my teens. And you know the rest of the story.

I do indeed, my friend.
My point is, as someone who takes their religion extremely seriously, our views are gonna differ hard in where the line is. And the last thing I want to do is water down that faith like a lot of parents do and pass on a confused version to my kids.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
I wonder a bit if neither of you was particularly upset and neither parricularly religious because specifically because the religion that was supposed to be there was so watered down that they taught you Santa was real.

For the not being so upset, maybe. But again I know people who had a very religious upbringing and they had Santa... Though actually the thing is here on Christmas eve "baby Jesus" brings the presents. And they were rather told it was "an angel" for similar reason.

Still not a fan of lying
But at least there isn’t a made up holy figure they’re trying to appease who gets swapped out for the real figure later like “Lol guess you caught us”2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

I don't think of it as lying. I think it's more playing along with the child, if that is what the parents are comfortable with. And I get not all religions are comfortable with that, and that's cool. To each their own.

I can see that. Guess we can just chalk it up to our walking different walks of life. :)
