It didn't sit right with me to tell my kids Santa's a holy figure who watches their actions and weighs their deeds, and will reward them for their kindnesses And then say "LOL just kidding he's not real, I'm a liar, but this other guy Jesus is totally real, trust me this time"

OH ab-so-lutely! See we have Santa coming on Dec 6 with some candy. And the real deal is Jesus (or sometimes an angel) bringing gifts on Christmas.

That’s not most Americans. Culturally, Christmas Day imagery here is vastly Santa and a small token awareness of Christ. So pretending Santa is real actually obscures Christmas even and Christmas Day itself and converts it to materialism. That’s wrapped up with the lying.

My point is, as someone who takes their religion extremely seriously, our views are gonna differ hard in where the line is. And the last thing I want to do is water down that faith like a lot of parents do and pass on a confused version to my kids.
