It didn't sit right with me to tell my kids Santa's a holy figure who watches their actions and weighs their deeds, and will reward them for their kindnesses And then say "LOL just kidding he's not real, I'm a liar, but this other guy Jesus is totally real, trust me this time"

Speaking from a secular POV., I really don't think kids believing in Santa's is a bad thing. It's a sign of their innocence and I feel it's wrong to take that away from them. They'll grow up and stop believing before you know it, so let them have that small bit of joy.

I know that my statement wasn't really on point with what you said, but I felt like it should be said, so I did.

I used to think a lot about it, because on one hand yeah it _sounds like_ lying. But on the other, I can't remember being upset about it at all when I found out. I took it more as what it is: a kind tradition. Though my parents did not make a Huge deal out of Santa...

I am respectfully curious: Are both of you from Christian families but now atheists?

I didn't quite grow up in a "Christian family". My parents never really were religious. My read the Bible a few times. I became seriously interested in religion during my teens. And you know the rest of the story.

Also, to make it clear: I dont think you are doing anything wrong not pretending Santa is real to any measure (as long as you do it with love ofc). I just dont think it in itself would cause much harm either way. Also I know devoted Christians whose parents had Santa.

I know, bro. No hard feelings. It’s fine for adults to have lukewarm debates.
