I have a feeling it may be biased, or at least there are many confounding factors. There are people with less skill who don't get toxic at women and very skilled players who are toxic as hell.

I saw some of this when I worked in retail with a lot of high schoolers. The boys would act up when a girl got promoted until someone in the previously established hierarchy corrected their behavior

But it only takes one day working customer service to learn that everyone prefers a male voice in authority. How many times did I grab my male supervisor to repeat me verbatim and have a situation instantly deescalate!

lol, the lower-level males in the male dominance hierarchy don't stand to lose the most status. They stand the least chance of being able to mate with the female interloper and so they find her an unnecessary and sexually irritating distraction in their quest for higher status.
