When you see claims that spanking damages children, remember: The primary study for this lumps ALL physical punishment (spanking AND face-punching) into ONE category and compares that with NONE. That’s like combining aspirin and meth and saying “Drug users have worse outcomes!”

Scientific accuracy is EXTREMELY important. Without standards, a study can be manipulated to show ANYTHING. Variables MUST be accounted for. Anyone who says accuracy isn’t an issue because their cause is just is selling you a religion. Educate yourself and read the studies.

This is how they studied alcohol consumption during pregnancy, too. Threw in everybody: the one-glass-of-wine-per-week ladies and the shots-and-heroin drunks.

And then difference between "I have 1-2 memories of getting spanked with a plastic spoon" vs. "My parents regularly whacked me with a belt for not tiptoeing around their eggshells perfectly"

I only got the belt once but I probably had it coming after responding to my mothers initial swatting with “you done yet?”

huh I always suspected something was amiss with that, but I never knew it was like this. Weren't there multiple studies done on this though? One would assume there were...

A tap on the bottom to get attention and discipline incorrect behavior when they were old enough to understand worked well for us.

Any parent knows the difference between disciplining a child and venting/child abuse. Spanking is 100% fine as long as it’s not abusively hard and the intent is to teach a lesson not punishment/lashing out because of a long/bad day.

Maybe it doesn't damage children. But it certainly teaches them nothing. Though it may in the short term stop a behaviour so does saying stop. One thing it certainly damages is the relationship that the child will have as an adult with their parent & worse maybe their own child.

I was spanked as a child, and I have fantastic relationships with my parents. Ditto with my siblings. I also see real-life examples of kids doing dangerous things like playing in a street, and moms saying, "Stop. Stop. Come over here. Listen to mommy please. Stop!", to no avail.
