The trend on the left seems to be a lack of belief in freewill, the implication being that those doing bad things simply have no choice in the matter. The further implications are troubling, and the trend seems to be one of normalizing the bad and rejecting punitive measures.
Also, "no free will" doesn't imply "no responsibility". Using the mindless automaton analogy that everyone is fond of, if a robot was hurting people, you would still try to stop it.
Humanism is a “1984” term. It was a renaissance movement that shunned medieval scholasticism in favor of Greek and Roman philosophy. The French enlightenment bastardized this term and saw it as all human actions being inherently good for humanity, which is asinine
