I wanted help & sleep, not perspective
The suggestion served to unite us against the counselor, anyway. We knew we didn't want divorce counseling
. But insurance paid for him.
Eventually we found a pair of married Christian counselors, but we had to pay them out of pocket. -
That's about the size of it. I have a solid need for counseling, but no money, and the knowledge that counseling orthodoxy is firmly against my religion. But all is not lost. I have good family and good friends, and in less than a week, I'm moving to where they are.

We had a toddler, I already felt half-abandoned and the other half was too exhausted to function, so how would that have helped?! O.o
