Cheers Adam Perhaps a silly question but is there an optimal *way* to read the bible? I suspect it's not an A to B kind of read...

Yes there is: The One Year Bible NKJV (New King James Version) on Kindle along with the “companion” (optional) will get you through in exactly one year with about 15 minutes reading a day. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006MK0IPE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_nrRbFbRWSF6CW …

Yeah there’s tons of programs. If someone is gonna read the Bible, though, I usually recommend a version with all the books included.

Do you mean all the books of the Bible?

Apologies if I am being a bit slow, but the NKJV that I recommended has all the books both OT and NT or am I missing something?

Common misconception. The standard worldwide Christian Bible has always had an additional 7 books over the NKJV. Martin Luther pulled 7 books, including passages Jesus Himself quoted and others quoted in Revelation, and put them in the back. Modern bibles remove them completely.

Luther also wanted to remove the Book of Revelation, but that didn’t fly. Instead it was just the 7. But the majority of Christians in the world still have bibles including the 7 as historically accurate, it’s mostly western Protestant Christians who don’t have them.

Of course - the Deuterocanonical works. I was not aware that the Catholic Bibles still included them in their entirity (and am now surprised that Robert Alter didn’t include them in his magnificent “Hebrew Bible” translation.) Thank you for pointing that out.

I only learned about them recently when I converted. Been reading them with the wife and so many pieces from the rest of the Bible are clicking into place.

Catholics still hold them as full canon, I should mention. That’s why we fuss about them.
