I get A TON of requests to read new books and do free development editing, usually by authors asking if the plot is good or especially to use my psychology license to see if their characters are “true to life”. I’m flattered but my reading list is 23 deep and I get 20 min a day.

I don’t have any hard feelings for these authors. I did the same thing when I was new and didn’t know. But: -I only get 20 minutes a day to read -I’m still paying for my MA -Develop editing can cost $500-3,000 -Free work means choosing not to make money or be with my family

In the past I’ve tried to accommodate people when I can. I love to help people every chance I get. But I’m at a point now where every minute of the day counts and stopping making money or neglecting my kids to do free work with a degree I’m still paying for just isn’t an option.

So the answer right now is that I just can’t read anyone’s books for the time being. But I’m always happy to answer questions or offer advice, because I enjoy helping people when it doesn’t conflict with my family’s needs.
