To whom it may concern, If you want me to promote your brand or business, then you have to compensate me. It's amazing how much people demand of me, then get incredulous when I ask how much they're paying. Don't take the mickey. It's disrespectful.

I have a musician friend, completely professional, doesn't have to do anything else anymore, 3 albums, contract to play at his genre's most famous venue in Lisbon... and he still gets invitations from acquaintances who ask "can't you just do it for free as a favor to us?".

I’ve learned if you’re going to ask but don’t know what to expect you say, “I’d like you to do this, are you open to that and if so what’s a fair compensation for your work?” If they like you it’s usually pretty low and chill because you’re not insulting them or demanding.
