Going to Mass is a tough choice right now. Our small parish church was almost always packed to the rafters, but they’re only opening to 25% capacity at Mass. That means if I want to attend I have to get there early and someone else gets turned away. Can’t bring myself to do it.

So I haven’t been to Mass, received Communion, or given Confession in months. But by not receiving these I’m making way for people who may be in dire need and desperate. Is it the right choice? I don’t know. It actually hurts, missing these. But charity is a virtue for a reason.

The sacraments can’t be replaced, but I’ve been mindful to cultivate the sacred relationship in other ways as this trial ensures. A new crucifix at my bedside, praying the rosary, more prayers with my children, more time in contemplation. And I yearn to see the sacraments again.

Many of you are in the same boat. This is a global issue we all face. Remember that we serve a Lord who gave us Ten Commandments to guide our ways. We have Bibles to read, and we can pray relentlessly every day to stay immersed in His presence. Let charity not turn to sloth.
