On my 18th birthday I woke up to my girlfriend calling to admit she’d cheated. My mom got furious at me for not liking a gift I told her in advance I wouldn’t like. Rich grandfather who disowned us lectured me for an hour to never trust anyone. Good prep for adulthood.

It was a weekend so I had 8 hours of homework to do for advanced classes. Tried to talk to family about my girlfriend cheating and no one wanted to hear it, “It’s supposed to be a happy day”. Shouting match with mother for not being excited enough about the gift.

The point of this story isn’t to get sympathy. It’s this: Life can be hard. Some days suck. There are times you’ll be absolutely miserable when everyone is trying to force you to pretend. Life can also get so much better. My worst day now is paradise compared to my early life.

There are days you’ll want to give up. Some days will seem absolutely pointless. You may even consider suicide as misery compounds. Remember that everything changes. You may not be able to solve a problem right now, but let something else shift and your whole life becomes new.
