On my 18th birthday I woke up to my girlfriend calling to admit she’d cheated. My mom got furious at me for not liking a gift I told her in advance I wouldn’t like. Rich grandfather who disowned us lectured me for an hour to never trust anyone. Good prep for adulthood.

There are days you’ll want to give up. Some days will seem absolutely pointless. You may even consider suicide as misery compounds. Remember that everything changes. You may not be able to solve a problem right now, but let something else shift and your whole life becomes new.

And on those terrible days, grit your teeth. Get through. Vow revenge if you need to. Soak in anger against the injustice if that’s what it takes. But never let up. Never surrender completely. As long as you’re alive you can heal, and then you forgive and resolve and heal.
