It was a weekend so I had 8 hours of homework to do for advanced classes. Tried to talk to family about my girlfriend cheating and no one wanted to hear it, “It’s supposed to be a happy day”. Shouting match with mother for not being excited enough about the gift.

The point of this story isn’t to get sympathy. It’s this: Life can be hard. Some days suck. There are times you’ll be absolutely miserable when everyone is trying to force you to pretend. Life can also get so much better. My worst day now is paradise compared to my early life.

There are days you’ll want to give up. Some days will seem absolutely pointless. You may even consider suicide as misery compounds. Remember that everything changes. You may not be able to solve a problem right now, but let something else shift and your whole life becomes new.

Who you surround yourself with is just as important as how you spend your time. No man is an island, and your circle does make a huge difference. Sooner or later we all need a tribe. Bare is the back of a brotherless man.

And on those terrible days, grit your teeth. Get through. Vow revenge if you need to. Soak in anger against the injustice if that’s what it takes. But never let up. Never surrender completely. As long as you’re alive you can heal, and then you forgive and resolve and heal.

Life gets so much better. Nothing ever stays the same. You can have so much more than you do now. Just get through.

My son turns 18 next year. I'm giving him empty moving boxes for his birthday.

I knew a guy who just got a note on his pillow in the morning while he was showering that said “When you moving out?” Never spoke to his dad again.

I want to hug you so tightly right now, Adam. Been really going through the ringer for the past few weeks and just really needed to hear this. I love you, brother. So much.

-
Definitely. You got this. Don’t give up. Change is coming.
