My author colleagues poke fun at my big daily word counts, some playfully and some passive-aggressively. Bear in mind this is my 6th year of pursuing this craft with absolute obsession. I started off pleased to get 100 words in a day. I went months with nothing. But I practiced.

They’re definitely not everything at all. Some of the best authors I know plug away at half my speed and couldn’t write a coherent text message to save their life.

Strangely, I tend toward lean books with high daily counts. Much more pulpy, less poetry. That’s why I’ve written 13 books in 2 years.

Each one gets better and they’re all pretty different. Personally I like my very first for world building and cast composition but the actual writing quality is not as high as my later works.
