Hate to differ with you, but anybody who tries to sell your cherished childhood experiences back to you on the installment plan, complete with "Greedo shot first" style revisionism ain't your friend.

It's Nomura rewriting Sakaguchi's work. Expect insular meta-nonsense up the wazoo and no satisfying payoff.

All they had to do to score big was redo the graphics of the original, maybe look at the years of critiques for some minor gameplay tweaks, and clean up the translation. When I first heard about it, I also heard it was not these things, and chose to ignore it.

They could actually salvage it. If they released this as a test to see how much people will tolerate, and if they see enough fan rage and back off, they could still put it back on the rails and salvage it to thunderous applause. But a decade of this has taught us what to expect.
