It is so much easier to help someone replace a maladaptive because when you 1) Aren’t antagonistic to them for their problem and 2) Don’t scold them like everyone else in their life.

Waited on a 16yo with her mom a summer ago. The girl's thighs and quads were exposed as she was wearing short shorts. The horizontal cut scars were way too numerous to count. I had to wonder what happened to put her in that state.

Are there any psych conditions for which yelling at the person is the most helpful response? Or is this one of those things where you never see those people because family and friends have the yelling covered?

I once yelled the gospel at someone with a hefty amount of sarcasm. It turned out to be exactly what she needed to hear in exactly the right way for her. Life is weird.
