I’ve never played Warhammer 40k, but when my kids are old enough I am investing in a few sets to teach them strategy and systems. Chess will come first, but open terrain and individual variables is a whole new layer. None of this digital stuff. Tactical and tactile table games.

I will second that opinion on Dominion. Absolutely love that game! Some other personal favorites are Pandemic, Splendor, Skull King, and Exploding Kittens.

Just bought Skull King on the recommendation of my daughter's classmate. It's a good one for introducing kids to strategy, and it's pretty fun.
