I grew up thinking string cheese was rich kid food because I only ever saw the kids whose parents made them a lunch eating them. Incidentally, I only had string cheese for the first time a couple of years ago.

My brother in law told me that growing up the other kids in town thought of my family as “The Rich Kids”. I asked Why? (Because we sure didn’t think we were rich) Because you guys had cold cereal whenever you wanted. Which was pretty much true. Those other guys had mush.

That is so right. Life was good with the weekly beans and hamhock. A couple days of leftovers then liver and onions. Never went hungry. Ever.

I always thought the beans smelled terrible. I'd just have a double helping of cornbread please. Mom always made a Jiffy mix.
