Huh.
Why not confess while there?
Heck, treat it as a free Psychotherapy session.
Any priest who would be a spiritual advisor will roll with it.
And even just plain confession does tend to have a similar effect
Just ask @TheBrometheus, who's a licensed counselor

I had a similar terrible experience. Went into an empty church and saw the priest duck into confessional, no one else present. I (not Catholic) went in and told him I wasn’t a Catholic but wanted to become one so I could confess. He was furious and ordered me out of the church.

Took me 11 years to try again. But I did, and I found a different parish with different priests who are warm and inviting. I tell that old story and they’re horrified and angry. Sometimes the Enemy gets involved and intercepts us to drive us away. For me, a second chance worked.

Sometimes the problem is the individual priest who’s flipped sides and is working against God. Not everyone in sheepskin is a sheep. My point isn’t to suck it up or anything. But I trusted it to God and went back and found a home and a family. Maybe someday you can, too.
