Had a close friend for 14 years. Sweet guy. From a bad family, he was depressed frequently. Started getting psych treatment but didn’t research anything. Heavy antidepressants, feel-good therapy. Felt better and had an affair with an engaged girl while smiling at her fiancé.

I called him on it. This was completely out of character and violated my deepest principles, but also violated the principles he’d espoused for 14 years. He said he didn’t need negativity in his life and could live however he wanted. Hasn’t spoken to me in 5 years.

People change. Sometimes they were always ugly underneath and never had enough power to let it free. Sometimes they connect with bad people who manipulate them into believing evil is good. But research all treatments you take before you begin. Remember harmful therapists exist.

Was diagnosed with depression 20 years ago and given SSRIs. Every week, despite my meds, I suffered a deep depressive episode. A year ago, thanks to administrative SNAFUs from changing states, I was deprived of my meds. After a month-long hellish withdrawal, no more depression.

I love you man, but I don't have a lot of trust for your profession any more. Though intellectually I know there are quacks in every field.
