Today's Hungarian idiom "burning the candle from both ends" - overexereting yourself, trying to do many things at once and - which will result in running out of "wax" (health) much faster.https://twitter.com/TheBrometheus/status/1226478371841794054 …

Ah, English has this idiom too. We may have stolen it from Hungarian after beating it up in an alley as we do with most languages. But it’s ours now. Try and stop us.

The problem with having some shared idioms (through whatever way) is that you never know which ones will be understood and which ones will leave your audience staring like a calf at the new gate.

Apparently if I told you that you shouldn't burn the candle at both ends, you would have understood. But if I told you not to chuck your axe into a big tree you would probably be wondering why I think you are a lumberjack.

Don’t you dare tell me what not to do with my axe!
