My clinic director says they hear constant compliments on me. My wife tells me she hears all the time how “Your husband helped me so much” etc etc. Folks, I’m doing the bare minimum. I’m no role model. We just live in a trash world with people who gave up. Be better than me.

I appreciate the kind words from everyone. Gives me a warm feeling. But seriously, don’t look at me as some golden aberration. Our world is a broken mess. Any one of you could surpass a jerk like me by just deciding to be that person who offers help instead of being embarrassed.

I’m just stumbling along in the footsteps of one greater than me. My own way was hideously disfiguring. This way is easier on the soul. Each one of you could be way better than me if you decided to be. If you’re looking up to me: Set out to be better than me, and you will be.

Your future is always open. It doesn’t matter who you’ve been. If you wake up tomorrow and decide to be a new person who embraces love and peace and compassion and mercy, you’re a new person. So go BE that person. Don’t gape slack-jawed at my bumbling attempts to imitate goodness

I appreciate you saying so. But you have the capacity to be far better. I already know you’re sweeter and more compassionate than I am. :)
