The most amazing & inspiring phone call yesterday. A relative just woke up to the nightmare her marriage had become. After 20 years, finally understanding the narcissism & abuse she had kept secret. She said my posts helped her hold out hope through the darkest year of her life. pic.twitter.com/SuE8uOgrK1

Question on Narcissists: Can you be a Narcissist while recognizing the narcissistic behavior and trying to change it? A long time ago (literally 6 years ago) while I was a very different person, I asked my therapist if she thought I was a narcissist and she told me it's

Impossible because I wouldn't be asking that if I was. I truly think I've changed and everyone in my life has said I have, but somehow that wasn't a comforting answer. I asked because I was worried if I had picked up narcissistic behavior from my dad. I was just wondering if

That is true. That you can't be narcissistic, recognize it and want to change. Also, so sorry if this is an inappropriate question to ask! I don't know if that would be a question that would only be ok to ask in therapy setting so I apologize if it's like asking for free legal

Advice! It's just something I've always pondered nad I figure it semi-pertains to the content. So I'm sorry! You aren't obligated to respond 😅

I’ve heard a lot of therapists say that same answer. It’s not super helpful. Probably what’s meant by it is that if the behavior is a full blown personality disorder, the person wouldn’t ask. A person can have many of the traits and not qualify for a full personality disorder.

Would a person with the personality disorder actually ask? 🤷‍♂️ I believe anyone CAN get better and CAN have a moment of realization with the right circumstances. But many people have learned traits as survival mechanisms and don’t meet criteria for full personality disorder.

That makes sense 😊 thank you for the answer, it's always kind of jostled around in my mind. I ended up being turned down for CBT therapy because they believed it would only be helpful for those with BPD (?) and they seemed to link those two behavioral disorders. I had always

Wondered after that if I would have benefited from CBT 😅 I'm doing great now other than some anxiety, but I feel like that has more to do with my pregnancy than anything else 😊 it's just always been an interesting thought to me.
