An armed society is a polite society, and allowing citizens to manage minor scuffles without police involvement preserves the fabric of society. Punishing the tiniest instances of citizen justice serves sociopaths who find ways to hurt and exploit others while skirting the law.

This is why when you beat the down, you take their wallet and a photo of their ID. Remind them that should they say anything other than "I fell down the stairs". You know where they live. At least until the laws of civil violence change.

Extensive laws have only gone to snuff out common decency. People act like they can do whatever and say whatever as long as they find some loophole in the laws, or legal action wouldn’t be worthwhile for the victim. Society’s moral compass needs retuning
