Parents, we live in a society that teaches young people their partner should cause shudders of unending euphoria to cascade through their being every day, and that failing to do so mandates immediate divorce. What are you doing to explicitly teach your children otherwise?

I remember my mom describing a few years in my parents marriage that they felt like two ox pulling the cart in the same direction. When 4 kids were 2-6 years old. Example is key.

Correct. Marriage is hard. This should be explained. You don’t have to punch your spouse in the mouth in front of your kids to convey that marriage takes work, but pretending to never struggle also sets an unhealthy precedent.
