Time magazine declares The Witcher "a post-GoT failure." Nice to see that Time is on a roll with being wrong.

I’ve heard so many tiring woke things from this series leading up to it, I doubt I’ll give it a watch.

Eh. I wouldn't watch it until I read the books and played the games to see how it's screwed up. Though I can say that the execution is enough to ID stories from ad snippets. And like everything else, all the good parts will wind up on YouTube eventually.

S1 seems to be dealing mostly with the shorts. I've only read book 1, an anthology, but I caught glimpses from two shorts offhand. From what little I know of the rest, they may be seeding in the overarching plot of a novel in the background.

The first book of short stories was gold. My appreciate for the series waned as the novels dragged on, until I eventually quit 40% into the final book. And I don’t quit books.

Sigh. And here I was hopeful it would be a solid series all the way through. Oh well. That's what KU is for I guess.

Hmm. Interesting. My appreciation for them was mostly the twists he put on fantasy genre tropes. Sort of like Bill Willingham with Fables, only in an epic fantasy setting instead of UF

The last book which should be the climax of the epic story is instead told from the perspective of an immoral female student who spends every scene aroused and trying to seduce her teacher’s husband while leafing through accounts of what happened to the main characters.

The book’s cast are new to the series and consistent entirely of horny people locked in a house in the distant future where the previous main characters are mostly legendary and the records are vague. That’s how the climax of the story is told.

I suspect that someone, somewhere, at the publisher told Sapkowski "We need to you make this more like Game of Thrones. I know you had Geralt talking about professional ethics and morals since book 1, but if you could ditch all that, it would be great. Thanks."
