Too many people mistake disapproval from others as a sign they’re doing something wrong. To be spat upon by bitter people ruled by their hate is not a sign of being wrong. It’s a sign of being right. Tomorrow you’ll be flying high, and they’ll be watching.

You’re gonna miss this if you’re built on seeking approval. If your psyche and wellbeing are wrapped up in what everything thinks of you, you’re doomed. You’re unlikely to accomplish much because bitter people will assault you every time you try to rise.

You hold a mirror up to people who can’t imagine a better life than the one why’re living. Who aren’t willing to put in the work. Who saturate themselves in despair like marinating a steak. As you get better, they will seethe with hatred against you.

If you’re out there looking for approval, if you crumble at harsh words, if you can’t handle people hating you, you will never rise. People will hate you SOLELY FOR GETTING BETTER WHEN THEY FEEL STUCK. Their hatred has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.

As long as you let the need for approval govern your life, you’re sunk. Break your chains and let go. Find objective measurements beyond the approval of others. Define your success beyond what anyone thinks. Free yourself. Or stay stuck with them in their swamp of despair.

HOW, though? I understand all this, but understanding != doing. I don't want to be so stuck on what others think of me, but I can't get past it. The feelings come whether I want them to or not.

Well, I did write a bestselling book on that issue.
But my advice is to figure out why you care by looking at what you believe you stand to lose. What will happen if they don’t approve? What’s the worst end result?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Excellent questions. I'll have to think about that. I'm planning on getting the book! I just keep forgetting when I go to Amazon.
