Samuel Shellenberger wrote it in 47 and it’s set in the Italian renaissance, but it wrestles with exactly these themes. The protagonist- Andre Orsini- begins with this Machiavellian worldview but he grows. Learns honor essentially. It’s a beautifully written character arc.
