I think you misunderstood the tweet. The bonds of blood are strong, but they aren't *felt* by the young. I've never met some of my family members, but I do feel strongly connected to them. However, I imagine that they would view me as a stranger.

The point is that when you see them for the holidays don't expect the excitement of seeing them to be reciprocated on you You have to introduce yourself as if you were a stranger, and just know that, eventually, in the future, the familial relationship will mean something to them

My toddlers grandfather sees them 2 to 3 times a year. And they scream when they arrive. Other grandparents.... so excited to see them because they make the effort.
