I have lost so much pay this year due to sick time. When I’m just feeling physically unwell I can work fine, but when my mind is affected, it would be dishonest to take money for a service I’m not actually providing. Finances have taken a big hit. This is the price of honor.

I have been sick 13 times in the last 13 months. All of my family has. We’ve seen doctors who tell us this is just how families with toddlers go. Some years are worse than others. We’ve had tests run and signs just point to an endless cycle of crap. We take vitamins to no avail.

Savings are way down to the dregs because of all this sick time. Working overtime at home on books and side projects to make up the difference. Praying the sickness lifts. When I talk about honor having a price, I’m paying it. I will not compromise and steal money from clients.

Honesty, integrity, honor: all have a price. It’s easy to claim to hold these virtues when times are good, but when keeping them costs you your savings, what will you do?

Rather than me slipping and saying a hurtful judgmental opinion or failing to help them in the way I contractually promised but taking the full pay?

That's rough, man. Son started going to a regular play group and found out my immune system was more Swiss guard than Praetorian.
