Men explain simple concepts to people they respect while comparing knowledge in an effort to learn from each other. Women only explain simple concepts to children, and to women they deem less intelligent than themselves. Thus the origin of women bristling at “mansplaining.”

Men explain things in detail that *everyone in the conversation already understands* as a demonstration of competency and to show your value to the elders of the community. We do this in business every single day.

We report the state of our enterprise up to Leadership, not because we think *they* don't know the business, but to show that *we* do and that we are still the right people for the job. This is common whether its sales, politics, or a couple guys standing around in the garage.

Sometimes as often as hourly I have to report up to Leadership that I understand and will execute on the initiatives. And then I ask the people below me to report the same. Anyone complaining about mansplaining has probably never worked in a large sales organization.

I've wondered if women notice how often men do this to each other.

Filtered through the lens of the sexes, it may not make sense to them.
