Men explain simple concepts to people they respect while comparing knowledge in an effort to learn from each other. Women only explain simple concepts to children, and to women they deem less intelligent than themselves. Thus the origin of women bristling at “mansplaining.”

Men bond by teaching and being taught. Attempting to explain is a show of respect and desire for connection. Huge missed opportunity when rejected.

The expectation is the other person will say “I’ve heard this part” and find a common ground for shared knowledge. When men explain, it’s a signal they respect the other person. But women would only talk that way to a child. So they believe they’re being condescended to.

I say that a lot to my best friend. He gets excited about nerdy shit a lot. Explains shit I already know, it's his way to exploring it. We became great friends because he is a closet need and used to only be himself around me. I fucking love that Meathead motherfucker.
