Men bond by teaching and being taught. Attempting to explain is a show of respect and desire for connection. Huge missed opportunity when rejected.

The expectation is the other person will say “I’ve heard this part” and find a common ground for shared knowledge. When men explain, it’s a signal they respect the other person. But women would only talk that way to a child. So they believe they’re being condescended to.

That’s interesting. I haven’t thought about that before.

Nice take and, on reflection, seems true. I know I will take the time to explain/teach to someone I respect, who I think will at least try to learn, bc their effort indicates their respect for my time and effort. If you won't bother, I won't, either.

One of the best things you can do for a guy is to ask for him to teach you something. It makes a guy feel valuable.

Interesting idea. I’ve gotten to the point in my career where hiring young new engineers and eager co-op college students has become an important and rewarding experience. I’m 50 now and started seeing leaving a strong pool of talent (and friends) as an important legacy.
