My father-in-law died of ALS two months after my wife died, so his last days were filled with overwhelming grief. He was devout, and that was his reward.

I think a more likely answer is that we are all shards of God living every possible life all at once right here, a la
@ScottAdamsSays’s “God’s Debris.” “I am he as you are he as you are me, and we are all together.” Why is there suffering? So God can experience it. -
