The catholic church views them as part of the old testament, I think. Adam can answer that better.

One should not criticize one’s father in public. The only person who can declare a pope to be heretical is another Pope. The Pope also serves as a good test for the faithful, if they submit only when it suits them or if they have faith God oversees His Church.

We definitely talk about it. We can express dismay or concern, and we definitely do. But I’ve seen Catholics saying they’re waiting for his death, even calling for his death, and declaring him this or that, and those things are antithetical to our faith.

I am intensely dismayed by some of his choices. They are not the choices I would make. But as he’s the earthly head of our family, it’s not my place to disagree with his decisions. I either believe God oversees the Church and will correct problems, or I don’t.

I definitely question some of his behaviors. Asking questions is fine. Usurping the authority to decide is not, and declaring him this or that is not in line with our teachings. Respect the chair if not the man.

And last, there will be another Pope after this one. And another, until Christ returns. Whatever one does wrong can be set right if God indeed oversees His Church. Respect the chair so the next one still has an intact Church to repair.
