Looking at reading some Tom Clancy novels. Never have before. Anyone for or against, and any suggestions where to start? Obviously, I’m a connoisseur of gunfights and explosions.

Net Force. Lightest and fluffiest of them all

Let’s revise. Which ones are most like YOUR books? I prefer that style.

Definitely Net Force then. It was the Clancy that most influenced my work.

Oof, I'm biased here. I hold that his best works were his first two, Hint for Red October and Red Storm Rising. Neither are gunfight & explosion heavy. His later stuff, esp. Rainbow Six, is far more in the vein of what you're looking for. I can't speak to Net Force.

Rainbow was also action heavy. More from the shooter POV. Though it involves previously established Jack Ryan characters. Though R6 does take hostages at Euro Disney

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

R6 also has radical Malthusian environmental technocrats as the villains.
