I loved Tom Clancy back in the day. The Hunt for Red October should be your first read, not only because it’s the first one he wrote but you don’t need to know the Jack Ryan universe to enjoy it.

Agree here. I also really loved rainbow six.

Red Storm Rising is awesome. The earlier the better, in general. It’s not great art, but they’re a lot of fun

My one complaint is that he follows the Stephen King theory of characterization, whereby you demonstrate character by showing a character’s likes/dislikes instead of how they act, but I love his books. Great plots

Start at the beginning. Red October and Red Storm Rising are certainly among the best.

Red October is on of my all time favorites. I greatly enjoy the movie as well.

Earlier and actually edited is probably better.

I have hunt for Red October. Clancy cannot write a damn because he suffers from the writing sin of over exposition just like Austen, his plotting is constantly held up by irrelevant meandering anecdotes or techno waffle. His novels read like military hardware tech manuals.

Same. I could totally tell by the writing that it wasn’t Clancy anymore. Blech
